What was the business need?

The client’s main motivation for developing a new system was the insufficient performance of the legacy solution and difficulties in working with the previous contractor, which posed a real risk to the growth and security of the client’s business.

Requirements:

  1. Development of a modern and functional system to support the operations of a company engaged in the embarkation of personnel on inland waterway vessels.

What was the challenge?

The collaboration started with an audit and verification of the existing solution and securing the client’s data as soon as possible, and then evolved into the design and implementation of a new dedicated system tailored to the needs and specifics of the market.

  1. The client required a highly flexible system due to the unpredictability of the situation on the water. It was essential to be able to dynamically adapt previously entered data to changing conditions.
  2. An additional challenge was the requirements analysis. The client did not have a list of requirements and functionalities, which required a high level of involvement in the iterative process of identifying and clarifying business needs based on the existing system, while remaining open to all the benefits and possibilities of creating a dedicated solution.

What was the solution?

Key functionalities included:

  1. Voyage planning and vessel selection
  2. Selection of suitably qualified ship personnel
  3. Management of a register of job applicants
  4. Generation of invoices based on the data contained in the system
  5. Generation of email templates containing an invoice or set of invoices to be sent to the customer
  6. Management of personal data
  7. Creation of a space for the register of tasks of office workers, equipped with a simple notification system to inform assigned persons of new tasks
  8. Enabling the management of system dictionary elements
  9. Visualisation of the work of ships and the service assigned to them in the form of an interactive calendar, offering various view modes (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)

Our project process and workflow:

  1. Prototyping and preparation of view mockups in Figma

  2. Development in an agile methodology. Execution of the current part of the project in parallel with the analysis of customer requirements for subsequent stages

  3. Creation of an external test environment to keep the client informed of progress

  4. Production implementation including data migration from the old system

  5. Maintenance and further development. Monitoring of system performance and introduction of new functionalities in response to changing needs
